B.Ed.4 Student Secures Prestigious Scholarship from the French-Speaking Community of Belgium
Congratulations to Elsye Pierce, final-year student of the Bachelor of Education programme at MIE, who has won a prestigious summer scholarship from the French-speaking Community of Belgium.
Supported by the International Cooperation Unit of the Department of Education, the call for applicants was sent to HEIs across Ireland and was particularly aimed towards students who intend to be future teachers of the French language. Two summer scholarships were available to Irish students interested in improving their knowledge and practice of the French language.
The scholarship covers in-person attendance at an education programme organised by the ’Université catholique de Louvain’ that takes place in person from 28th July to 15th August 2025. The total programme involves 65 hours of class work and many cultural activities. A certificate will be issued at the end of the programme. Registration fees, accommodation and food expenses are covered by the WBI (Service des Bourses d’Etudes, Formateurs et Lecteurs Wallonie-Bruxelles International).
Elsye said “I feel so fortunate to have been selected for this scholarship and develop my French. I attended primary school in France and have kept up the language, so I’m looking forward to passing down the gift of French to my future students!”
Course leader for the B.Ed. programme, Dr Aimie Brennan, said “This is a remarkable achievement and a true testament to Elsye’s dedication, hard work, and passion for language. MIE are incredibly proud of her success and excited to see all the opportunities that will open for her in the future. Félicitations!”
