Biography
Carol Ní Cheallaigh is an Assistant Lecturer in Education with Expertise in Primary Mathematics at Marino Institute of Education. Carol works across English medium and Irish medium primary education programmes, supporting students in developing both pedagogical content knowledge and mathematical knowledge for teaching. Carol worked as a primary teacher for over 20 years, in both a Gaelscoil and DEIS Band 2 English medium primary school. She has taught across all stages, including 3 years in a special class for autistic children. Carol spent 2 years on secondment with Oide Primary STEM team. During her secondment, she was a member of the design team for the professional learning event for the second school closure day for the national roll out of the Primary Mathematics Curriculum (2023). In addition, Carol was a member of the design team for the Primary Curriculum Framework professional learning events. Carol has designed and delivered mathematics education webinars on behalf of both the INTO and Mayo Education Centre. Carol’s research interests include curriculum change, pedagogical practices and inclusion.
